Itzhak Perlman

Itzhak Perlman was born in Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel in 1945 and showed serious interest in music by the age of 3.  At 4 years old, his music studies were interrupted when he contracted polio which left his legs with a permanent disability. When he was 13, he came to New York to study at the Juilliard School, already displaying a brilliant virtuoso technique. As an adult, he has performed with and conducted most of the world’s great orchestras, as well as at the White House state dinner honoring Queen Elizabeth ll and President Barack Obama’s inauguration.  He has won 11 Grammies and recorded most of the violin repertoire. Mr. Perlman is also held in high regard as a violin pedagogue.  In 1995, his wife, Toby, founded The Perlman Music Program on Shelter Island, New York, where the couple offer 6 week classes to gifted 12-18 year olds.
